Once In a Blue Moon--Tonite! Don't Miss it!!

Don't miss Friday night's rare blue moon beauty

By: Courtney Baird

On Friday night a rare blue moon will rise in the sky in an astronomical event that occurs only once every three years or so. If you're hoping to see the blue moon but the sky above you is cloudy, don't fret. The web-based Slooh Space Camera will broadcast the event live beginning at 6 p.m. EDT. (The website's even got a countdown clock to its blue moon coverage.)
Friday evening's blue moon will allow fans of the late Neil Armstrong to marvel at man's incredible feat. Armstrong was the first man to set foot on the lunar surface back in 1969. This photo was taken early Friday morning as the moon technically turned full. Photo: Travis Burke
If you're more inclined to watch the real thing, the best viewing is usually available outside of town, away from the glare of city lights. Viewing is enhanced even more if you can find a nearby lake or pond that will reflect the moon's light. Of course, avoiding cloud cover is a must, so knowing where find patches of clear sky is key. Chances are there's a micro climate near you to do so.

Folklore will tell you that strange things go bump in the night when there's a blue moon--but what folklore won't tell you is that blue moons aren't really blue. The term is a misnomer and actually refers to the second of two full moons that occur during the same calendar month.
Because the lunar cycle is 29.5 days, most months only see one full moon. But every once in a while a full moon rises twice in the same month. The next time we humans will see a blue moon is on July 31, 2015.

You'll love these SNAKE FACTS! Real conversation starters!

 Snake Senses

Snakes do not have eyelids; their eyes are protected by transparent scales.  Most snakes have limited eyesight and a few of the blind, burrowing snakes are completely eyeless!

They rely on other senses to survive.  Although they breathe through their nostrils, snakes get most of their sense of smell from their tongue.  As it flicks in and out, a snakes' tongue sample the air for any interesting molecules. These are
analyzed by Jacobsons' organ, which is situated inside the mouth.  Some snakes have heat-sensitive pits beneath their eyes for hunting warm-blooded animals at night.
There are no plant eating snakes.
Snakes cannot take bites out of their prey, but must swallow it whole.

The antidote to a snake bite (sometimes called an anti-venom) is made from the venom itself.
The venom is collected from live snakes, by a dangerous process known as "milking."

The BLUE MALAYSIAN CORAL SNAKE is extremely venomous and is sometimes called the "100 paces" snake, because that is supposedly the farthest a person can walk after being bitten.

Eqyptian cobra----The ancient Egyptian queen Cleopatra is supposed to have committed suicide by letting herself be bitten by an Eqyptian cobra.

So--there you have it!!  Everything I ever learned about snakes, I learned from my 4-year old grandson's books!

Facts about tomorrow nights Open Ceremonies! Olympics!

Cool Facts
about the 2012 Opening Ceremony   Don't miss!!  Watch!!
(refer to blog tab Olympic Games for more details!)

The Opening Ceremony is a celebration showcasing the best of the Host Nation. It also features a parade of all competing nations and the highly anticipated entrance of the Olympic Flame, which ignites the Cauldron and signals the start of the Games.

The name of the Olympic Opening Ceremony show will be ‘Isles of Wonder’ and the worldwide broadcast will commence at 9pm. The Ceremony will kick off with the sound of the largest harmonically tuned bell in Europe, produced by the Whitechapel Foundry, and the Stadium will be transformed into the British countryside for opening scene ‘Green and Pleasant’, which includes real farmyard animals

Receiving the Head of State

The Head of State of the Host Country is received at the entrance of the Olympic Stadium by the President of the IOC. For the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony, Her Majesty the Queen will be greeted by Jacques Rogge.

Parade of Athletes

A procession of the participating teams in the Stadium, nation by nation. Teams enter in alphabetical order, according to the language of the Host Country, apart from the Greek team, which enters first for the Olympics, and the team of the Host Nation (in this case Team GB), who march in last.

Performers

A total cast of 15,000 will take part in the London 2012 Opening and Closing Ceremonies, which will be watched by an estimated audience of four billion.

Good Luck to all the USA Athletes!!

A Beautiful Home! A Bridal Shower & Pinterest!

I recently attended a bridal shower of a long time family friend in Spokane.
We meandered along country roads, reminiscent a little of Maine....swaying/winding roads until we got there.

This beautiful, custom home was at the Lake's Edge and the shower was purely picturesque!
We had alot of fun!

Are YOU using Pinterest yet?  You must check it out!
My daughter helped put on the shower and came up with wonderful ideas (off of Pinterest) for the bridal shower, including.......

A "sign-in" leaf tree!  Green paper leaves were attached with clothes pins to some bare branches (that were placed in sand/with small lights that were battery operated)---each attendee wrote on the leaf ----their name, along with any other personalized message for the new bride--to-be to read later.

We sprinkled the tablecloth with large crystal/glass rocks...it was quite lovely (if I do say myself!)

Here's to a lifetime of Love, Happiness & Laughter!

p.s.   if you like the above house and are in the market to buy a new home here in the Tri Cities, TEXT or give me a call direct at 509.302.0234  Piper Barton, REMAX

I have been really, really busy this year because people, like yourselves, are buying due to the great price of homes and the unbelievably low interest rates.  It's amazing how that is affecting how much of a home you can buy!  Don't miss out! We'll have fun looking!

The Firetruck and My Angel Baby #2

My Grandson, Colt, has such a sweet heart!  This broke mine! :(

So, according to his mother (my daughter), Coltie had gone with his big 4 year old brother, Gunner James,on a field trip that Gunner's school had!  While there, Colt was running around and would not listen to his mommy.  THEN, an actual alarm went off and all the firemen were sliding down their ladders, suiting up and starting thier engines to respond to an ACTUAL FIRE!!

CHAOS!!  Where is my child?

"Oh, Colt Daniel....you are in TIME OUT!"  shouts mommy.

Poor Angel Baby...was SO happy....now he is SO sad!  (where are my kleenex?  )
